Two houses stand side-by-side, one is home to a dog and the other to a young girl, with a fence dividing them. The lonely girl notices the lonely dog on the other side of the fence and begins to bring him snacks and read to him through the slats. I wanted to love this picture book as it had so many nice things about it, but I was disturbed by the abandoned dog left outside both day and night for over a year. Why would someone do that? Despite that concern, the book has a powerful message about sharing of stories with others. The vibrant illustrations are filled with emotion. A book to share with young readers who also love stories.
